23rd anniversary of the ADA

Here’s a quick round up of great essays and news I’m reading to mark the 23rd anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. You will notice they are a mixed bag of joy and sadness:

Kristin Duquette, “Leave No One Behind”

Mike Ervin, “Why I Celebrate the ADA at 23”

Rodger DeRose, “Providing work opportunities for people with disabilities benefits economy and society”

“A Brief History of Down Syndrome, Pt. 7”

Lydia Brown, Autistic Georgetown Student, Spoke at White House Disability Event

AAPD (American Association of People with Disabilities) interns share their experiences of the ADA in a video

Carey Goldberg, “Did You Hear the One About the Comedian with No Arms and No Legs?”

And finally, a post from my friend Bill Peace about his experiences with academic conferences and ADA compliance:

Bad Cripple, “Happy 23rd Birthday to the ADA: Oh and People with a Disability Still Get Screwed”
